Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy can treat these 8 disorders

What Is Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy?

After an accident or injury to your body, your muscles and joints around your injury become painful, stiff, inflamed and very tender. This response is your body’s protective mechanism and is normal. Unfortunately, injuries can lead to increased pain, tightness and weakness. At Moreau Physical Therapy we like to take a hands-on approach and use a combination of mobilization, manipulation and massage techniques to help restore your mobility.

Knee treatment

Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy (OMPT) is a “hands-on” treatment provided by our Moreau physical therapists. Treatment options include muscle stretching, passive movement of affected body parts through moving joints in specific directions at different speeds to regain movement (manipulation and joint mobilization), or therapist applying resistance to the patient body part to improve muscle activation and timing. Some soft tissue techniques may also be used to enhance the function and mobility and of muscles and tissues.

What Conditions Can Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy Treat?

Orthopedic manual physical therapy is usually recommended for muscle, soft tissue, or joint conditions that affect movement, strength, posture or cause pain. OMPT can improve function and quality of life for disabilities related to conditions such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy, diabetes, heart disease, cancer or balance disorders. The most common disorders are:

  • Athletic Injuries
  • Trauma
  • Overuse
  • Poor Posture
  • Post-Operative Recovery
  • Obesity
  • Arthritis
  • Congenital Conditions

Why Should I See A Therapist For OMPT?

A person who is in pain and suffers from a neuro-musculoskeletal disorder may benefit from an exercise and movement re-education program to restore pain-free movement, function, and return to an active lifestyle. Often, when joint restrictions and soft tissue problems are present, movements or exercises become painful or even make the condition worse. In these instances, an OMPT therapist can provide hands-on techniques to reduce pain, improve mobility, and restore normal function of the joints and soft tissues. Our OMPT therapists can prescribe and implement the most effective individualized exercise and movement re-education program to improve or maintain your health and quality of life.

What To Expect From Your Visit?
