What is Certified Hand Therapy?

Hand therapy is the science and art of evaluating and treating conditions and injuries of the upper extremities to include the shoulder, arm, elbow, forearm, wrist, and hand. It evolved from the need for therapists with advanced expertise to manage the complex recovery process associated with hand and upper extremity injuries, especially for patients throughout Louisiana.
A Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) is an occupational therapist or physical therapist who has a minimum of three years of clinical experience, including 4,000 hours or more in direct practice in hand therapy.
